Firefighters were called to a cafe hut on Coryton Cove Beach, Dawlish, today (Saturday 26th April) due to a fire that had been started deliberately.

Crews were alerted to the incident after reports of something on fire next to the train station. One appliance from Dawlish was initially mobilsed to the incident, however a further appliance from Teignmouth was later called to the scene.

On their arrival at 1.41pm crews confirmed the fire to involve a single storey cafe, which was well alight, crews got to work with four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet.

The fire, believed to have been started deliberately, took almost two hours to extinguish.
