Conservationist and reptile expert Crocodile Joe visited Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park on Thursday 28th May to personally welcome two spectacled caimans to their new home at the brand new reptile area in the Animal Barn.

The two crocodilians were rescued by the RSPCA in Cornwall where they were then temporarily housed at Cornwall’s Crealy Great Adventure Park before their move to Devon this May Half Term. Each caiman is around 18 months old and measures 30cm, the duo are likely to grow to 1.3 meters at full growth. The new reptile area will also shortly house an Iguana and terrapins which will complete the new reptile family at Crealy.

The reptile expert wowed audiences with his ‘Wild World Reptile Show’. Pythons, tarantulas, scorpions and skinks were the stars of the show and those brave enough were able to get up close and handle the creatures.

Crocodile Joe was given his name by the Aborigines whilst working with crocodiles in Australia.  During his time down under, Joe worked with the Aborigines and zoologists tracking crocodiles for research purposes, as well as rescuing and relocating dangerous animals, such as snakes from residential areas.

Crocodile Joe said: “My visit to Devon’s Crealy has been absolutely brilliant. It was great to see so many excited and interested families. The new spectacled caimans at the Park look very comfortable in their new home and it was a pleasure to talk to my special guests on press day about the new arrivals.”

Grace Ryder, Group Marketing Manager at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park said: “We have welcomed the new reptiles as part of our ongoing educational programme within the Park. It was great to see Crocodile Joe engaging with children and parents alike, the demonstrations were educational, exciting and fun for the whole family.  We look forward to welcoming Crocodile Joe and his reptiles back to the Park in September.”
