Hospiscare’s annual Coffee Morning event is about to get under way. Throughout the area, people are signing up to raise funds for the local charity by holding coffee mornings in their homes, community halls and even their local parks. Businesses, too, are getting ready to brew up for Hospiscare.

Popular local celebrity Judy Spiers and her faithful companion Gus Honeybun, will once again be joining in the fun and popping in to visit coffee mornings during the event, which runs throughout September.

Last September, Hospiscare supporters held more than 100 coffee mornings, together raising over £22,000. The charity is hoping to beat that target this year and, to encourage people to sign up and raise funds, there are two fantastic draw prizes of afternoon tea for two people on offer.

Anyone who registers by 20th August could find themselves taking tea at the luxurious Bovey Castle Hotel in the heart of Dartmoor, while those who raise £350 or more could be enjoying their tea in the elegant surroundings of Deer Park Country House Hotel near Honiton.

Event organiser, Lianne Harding, said: “Above all, we want people to enjoy themselves while they raise funds for us. You don’t have to ‘go to town’ with baking – we’re not all Devon’s answer to Mary Berry – and there are many ways to make your coffee morning a success.

“For example, you could ask your friends to bake some cakes and bring them, or even buy them – there’s no shame in that! You could also have a bric-a-brac stall, hold a raffle with a small prize, or play ‘Guess the Number of Beans in the Jar’ – these are great ways to boost your fundraising total.

“There are many more excellent ideas in our Coffee Morning pack, so call us on 01392 688020 or visit www.putthekettleon.org.uk and get planning. All the money raised will go towards the support and care of local patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”

Hospiscare is a local adult hospice charity, providing high quality care and support to people with any type of terminal illness, and those close to them, in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.  A gift to Hospiscare in your Will helps to ensure the future of the charity in Devon for generations to come.
