The Conservative party’s Prospective MP for Exeter Dom Morris has today challenged Labour to “do the right thing” and back English votes for English laws in Parliament.

Dom supports the proposals by Prime Minister David Cameron to ensure that legislation at Westminster which affects England, is only voted on by English MPs.

But Labour Leader Ed Miliband has refused to back the proposals.

Dom said:  “I am challenging Ed Milliband’s current MP for Exeter Ben Bradshaw to do the right thing and come out in favour of English votes for English laws.

“It is basic democracy that MPs should not vote on matters that do not affect their constituents in the slightest.

“So far Labour’s response has been disgraceful with Ed Miliband shying away from this necessary democratic change and putting party above country. This is unacceptable.

“I hope Miliband’s party locally have a bit more steel and will back the democratic rights of English people in this challenge.

“Ed Balls recently failed to give an answer on if he supports English votes for English laws despite being asked 13 times by a journalist - I hope that Exeter’s Labour party can do better.”
