Christmas market prepares to open

At last, after all the building and preparations the Christmas Market is set to open in Exeter for a second year.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Exeter Cathedral, the Exeter Christmas Market promises to engage and excite visitors and shoppers with its array of goods, foods and festive treats. Combining products from local traders and traders from around the globe, the Market offers an authentic feast of quality Christmas fayre. Unique in its seasonal charm, The Christmas Market will be a hub of retail activity offering quality produce and unique seasonal charm in-turn creating unforgettable visitor experience.

The Market opens at 6pm on the evening of the Thursday 21st of November in conjunction with the City Christmas light switch-on. When the City has been lit, take a stroll to the Market and enjoy a fresh mug of hot Gluwhein, in a specially designed Exeter Christmas Market mug, a Yuletide treat for everyone as the heavenly sound of the Cathedral choristers fills the air.

Chief Executive of Market Place Europe, Nick Rhodes said:
‘We are thrilled to opening our second market in the grounds of Cathedral Green, this year the market is even bigger and better offering an even more memorable experience. The temperatures may have dipped but the atmosphere of the Market will keep visitors feeling cosy.”

With over 50 traders hungry festive shoppers can feast on roast Hog, Belgian chocolates, Baklava, crepes, specialty cheeses and meats from across the continent. Local retailers will make up over 30% of the traders who will be selling a wide range of traditional Christmas crafts and local foods.

To celebrate the arrival of the Christmas Market Market Place are offering free tours for school and community groups. Lasting up to 45 minutes, the tours give a unique and entertaining insight into the world of Christmas Markets. To book please email Emma at

The Exeter Christmas Market will be on Cathedral Green until Thursday 19th December. Exeter City Centre Management hosts the market in partnership with Exeter Cathedral, Exeter Chamber of Commerce and the Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership.
