Celebrate the Hindu festival of Navratri at the University of Exeter
People can celebrate the Hindu Festival of Navratri at the University of Exeter with spectacular dancing and food.
Navratri honours the divine feminine energy. Students from the university’s Hindu Society hope others can join them as they mark the important nine-day festival.
There will be Garba, a form of traditional Gujarati dance. Traditionally, the dance is performed by women in a circle around a clay lantern with a light inside to represent the womb. The word "garba" comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, which means womb.
There will also be Dandiya dance routines, which originated in Gujarat, and traditional vegetarian Indian food and drinks.
The event will be held on the 22nd October at the Terrace restaurant at the University of Exeter. It will begin at 6:30pm with an Aarti – prayer - and speech, followed by the dancing, music and food.
