Brass Group celebrates its 9th birthday

Celebrations were in order when East Devon DayTime Band (EDDB) recently reached nine years since its formation by Band Administrator, Trevor Heynes.

Among the number of excellent community bands in the local area, EDDB is virtually unique in that it rehearses and performs during daytime hours only.

The band has a vibrant membership and welcomes new members. In particular, Trevor is keen to encourage lapsed players (perhaps those who used to play a brass instrument in their youth) to return and enjoy the proven social and health benefits of playing in a musical group. Also, any musician from any musical background who would like to play a brass instrument can contact Trevor.  The band does have some instruments to loan.

Anyone who thinks it is too late to learn may be inspired to know that the band has several players who started playing a brass instrument on reaching retirement, one of whom is still playing in his 90s!

Rehearsals are held every Wednesday morning at the Sidmouth Rugby Football Club Pavilion in Sidford. Performances are at various local venues including care homes, fetes, garden parties, schools, churches and retail outlets.
