Police and Coastguard are continuing with the search for a missing 27-year-old man who went swimming with friends at Loe Bar Beach, Porthleven, Cornwall, in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The man was part of a group on holiday in the area, five of whom went for a night swim.

It was only when the other swimmers returned to the beach , that they realised their friend was not with them.

The weather and water conditions, at the time, were described as being rough.

Police were contacted by Her Majesty’s Coast Guard at 1.30am and a joint search and rescue operation, including lifeboats and search and rescue helicopter was instigated until the weather was considered too dangerous to continue.

Further searches of the coastline are currently being made.

The family of the man are aware of the incident.
