The Baby Room in Exeter wins award for support of breastfeeding mums
In 2017, Lansinoh launched the UK’s first ever Feed with Confidence Awards which sought to find and highlight the best breastfeeding places in the UK. Nominations flooded in from all corners of the UK and The Baby Room in Exeter has been named as the runner up in the Feed with Confidence Awards 2017.
Jen, who helps run the Baby Room said, “We are delighted to have won an award which recognizes our support of breastfeeding mums. It’s so important that parents are supported by those around them when they are out and about and it’s fantastic that our customers have nominated us for this!”.
In 2015, 776,950 babies were born in the UK. Yet just 0.5% of UK mums are breastfeeding their newborn at 12 months, despite recommendations from the World Health Organisation to continue breastfeeding into your baby's second year. And worryingly, Britain has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world.
“We’re committed to supporting all mums who choose to breastfeed, and Feed With Confidence is an important initiative for us because it highlights the places and the people who are doing exactly that,” explains Lisa Craven, UK Marketing Manager, Lansinoh Laboratories. “We have had an amazingly positive response from the British public in the first Feed with Confidence Awards and we’re excited to launch the 2018 awards later in the year. The more we encourage openness and acceptance within society, the more confident mums will become – and that’s good news for everyone."
Below are some breastfeeding tips for businesses from The Baby Room:
• Make breastfeeding mums comfortable with comfy chairs and cushions.
• Provide complimentary glasses of water. Breastfeeding is a thirsty business. The average breastfeeding mum drinks 3.1 litres of water a day compared to someone who isn’t breastfeeding, who drinks on average 2.2 litres a day.
• Ensure staff are trained to be kind and supportive. This will equip them to be handle complaints from customers who may object. There are always a few!
