If you are looking to take up watersports in Exeter, the Quay in Exeter is a great place to go.

The clocks are soon to go forward, so that means that the summer is in sight, what better way to start looking at what you could be doing in the summer to keep you cool whilst keeping fit.

There are a range of different watersports to do in Exeter from paddleboarding to rowing, so if you’re looking to sit down or stand up on the water there is an option for everyone.

Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is a fairly new activity that has become extremely popular in recent years and is great fun whether you are in a secluded estuary or on the ocean.

Coastal areas have started to add this to their range of watersports activities and many places are now providing memberships for clubs to go out on the water together, meaning that you can socialise whilst doing a full-body workout.

Pedalpaddle

A new take on the stand-up paddleboard is pedalpaddle, these are stand up foot-powered boards, which allow you to go out on the water and not get wet, due to the high stability of the board and the ability to steer.

The pedals allow you to travel faster and more efficiently meaning that you can cover more distance in less time than a standard paddleboard. If you’ve tried paddleboarding and are looking for a fun alternative with similar aspects, Pedalpaddle is a great water sport activity in Exeter suitable for a family or even a stag or hen do.

Rowing

Enjoy rowing at the gym but want to get outside and try it for real. Due to the team aspect of the sport, joining a rowing club is a great way to meet new people, like any sport rowing requires time to train as well as competitions meaning that as a team you will spend a lot of time together.

Exeter Rowing Club is based on the quayside and holds regular events and activities both on and off the water. As well as this the club also takes part in local, national and even international competitions, helping you really succeed in this watersport.

Sailing

‘Learn the ropes’ of sailing at Haven Banks, where you can take on your next adventure in a small sailing boat along the River Exe or the Exe Estuary. Here you have the option to take on a sailing course to learn and improve your skill or join one of their adults weekends if you are looking to socialise whilst trying out a new sport.

Kayaking

The Kayakhub in Exeter regularly run events and trips, great for people who are looking to take up kayaking, whether this be for thrillseekers doing white water trips or for those looking for a relaxed paddle along the River Dart.

Powerboating

For a less physically strenuous water sport that is just as fun as all the others is powerboating, at Sail Exmouth you can take on a course in powerboating and come away with RYA Level 1, 2 or 3 depending on your level of skill and experience in this sport already.

Windsurfing -

As well as powerboating you can also take a RYA course in windsurfing, Exmouth Watersports offers a monthly 2 day course for beginners to learn this watersport. If you have already tried and enjoyed windsurfing previously and would like to improve your skill on this they also provide intermediate and advanced courses for those interested.
