6000 chickens have died as a result of a fire that took place earlier today at Perkins Village near Exeter.

Over six appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called to deal with the fire which occured at 10.34am.

As well as extinguishing the fire, crews did their best to move cattle and livestock to safety.

Unfortunately the incident left a chicken barn completely destroyed and resulted in the death of 6000 chickens.

It took firefighters an hour and a half to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of fire is accidental.
