Try a taster session in Wheelchair Rugby this weekend
This weekend brings the opportunity to try out Wheelchair Rugby in Exeter and Newquay.
Over the next two weekends Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) is offering free tasters for those interested in the sport.
Kirsty Clarke, National Development Director, GBWR said: "Our aim is to get more people than ever before playing wheelchair rugby on a regular basis. We have different levels of the game aimed to suit a whole range of disabilities.
“We're aiming to put a smile on your face, as you whizz, whack and hurl your way across the court."
Among the most popular sports of the Paralympic games, wheelchair rugby combines an exciting mix of strength and speed.
Played on a basketball court, wheelchair rugby sees four player teams attempt to take the ball over the goal line while guarding their own.
Sometimes known as ‘murder ball’ this full contact sport is jam-packed with high-speed collisions and is as exciting to watch as it is to play.
Team GB regularly reaches the top four positions in international play despite this with only ten clubs in the UK nationally it is still an emerging sport.
Mandip Sehmi, one of Team GB’s Wheelchair Rugby stars, said: "Rugby Wheels is a brilliant way of having a go, having a laugh - and getting a bit fitter at the same time.
"I'd really encourage would-be participants to come along and get involved – it’s great fun."
