Cathedral honour for visiting Tongans

The Dean of Exeter has honoured the Tongan national rugby team during their stay in Exeter as part of this year’s Rugby World Cup.

Players from the squad, who were visiting the Cathedral on Tuesday with their families, accepted honorary membership of the Friends of the Cathedral of behalf of the entire national team. They were met at the west door by the Dean of the Cathedral, a keen rugby fan, who welcome the Tongans to Exeter and its Cathedral and presented them with their certificate.

The players and their families enjoyed a short tour of the Cathedral, saw the carving of the rugby player in the Chapel of St James and met the Cathedral Choristers.

Tonga will take on Namibia at Exeter’s Sandy Park on Tuesday 29th September.
