Alphington Blazers Live Footballing Dream

Members of a boys junior football team enjoyed a taste of life as a professional footballer after winning a training session with the management team of Exeter City – thanks to one of the UK’s leading builders merchants.

Alphington Blazes under 14s claimed the prize in a special competition run by Exeter’s club partners Selco Builders Warehouse, which has a branch on Marsh Barton Road, Filmer Way.

Alphington Blazers, who play in the Exeter Youth League, also won 20 tickets to a League One game at St James Park and a new kit for the 2023-24 season.

Exeter City boss Gary Caldwell led the training session at the club’s Cliff Hill complex, along with assistant manager Kevin Nicholson and first team coach David Perkins.

Gary said: “It was a fantastic training session and it was really enjoyable to be able to give something back to grassroots football by training the lads from Alphington Blazers.

“We replicated many of the training sessions we would carry out with the first team and the lads were fantastic at taking our advice on board.

“We had some great fun with the team and we wish them every success for the rest of the season.”

The Selco competition was open to any boys or girls team playing in a recognised league at any age group between under eights and under 15s in and around Exeter.

Jamie Littley, manager of Alphington Blazers, said: “It was a brilliant experience for the team and something they will remember for a long time.

“Gary and his management team were great with the lads and to go to the fantastic facility at Cliff Hill and to learn from some top EFL coaches was a real treat.

“We can’t thank Selco enough for running the competition.”

With hundreds of trade brands always in stock, Selco’s 75 UK branches are firmly focused on helping tradespeople complete their jobs as quickly and effectively as possible.

As well as offering trade services, Selco also has a strong digital presence including Click & Deliver and Click & Collect services and an app - as well as a ‘Dial & Deliver’ telephone service - to make life as convenient as possible for tradespeople.
