Community groups in Devon have just a few days left to apply for a regional grant of up to £10,000 to help local people look after their hearts.

National charity Heart Research UK is urging groups to submit applications for the Heart Research UK and Subway® Healthy Heart Grant before the 11th September.

The Heart Research UK and Subway® Healthy Heart Grant is available for new and innovative projects that promote healthy hearts and reduce the risk of heart disease in the community.

Projects should demonstrate health initiatives such as cooking skills and healthy eating and should encourage people to move more and promote positive mental wellbeing.

The £10,000 has been raised locally in Subway® stores throughout the West Country and through the nationwide Subway Helping Hearts™ Family 5K fun runs.

The winner from the West Country in 2018 was the 'Dangerous Dad's Network, who launched the 'Dad Dancing Fit Club' to give men in Torbay the chance to keep fit and healthy.

Sarah Mirfin, Healthy Heart Coordinator at Heart Research UK said: "At Heart Research UK we're always looking to the future and thinking of new and improved ways of promoting heart health.

"We're looking for a project that's innovative, heart focused, engaging and makes an impact. If you have a great project idea and want our help to take on heart disease in your community, this is your last chance to apply."

Colin Hughes, Subway's Country Director for the UK & Ireland, said: "We are so proud of the generosity of our guests who donate to our charity partner Heart Research UK through our network of collection boxes, which are in every Subway store. This programme allows us to proudly offer this Healthy Heart Grant to the West Country.

"We know that these grants go a long way to help others in helping with their heart health. We're delighted that our initiatives with Heart Research UK are recognised and give people opportunities to improve their heart health that they otherwise might not have had."

The deadline for applying is the 11th September and can be done by visiting https://heartresearch.org.uk/apply-for-grants/healthy-hearts.
