Just before Christmas, three boys from the SWITCH youth club, run by East Devon District Council community development workers, came into the council offices at Knowle to work on their winning logo design with a professional graphic artist – and to collect their prizes.

The logo is for a joint partnership project where HALFF – a food charity based in Axminster – have been encouraging the young people to work together, cooking food from scratch. They will also be creating their own recipes and turning them into a book.

The name they came up with for the project is FOODtastic and their prizes were cinema tickets with refreshments and a selection of art materials.

The project runs every other week for two years and the young people have loved making a main meal and a pudding every other week since the beginning of the Autumn term.

Community Development Worker Polly Anderson said: “These young men in particular have been an asset to the group, creating tasty treats for all to eat.

“The catch phrase the boys created to go with the logo was SWITCH the oven on. They are clearly keen to encourage others to do the same!

“The results have been very impressive – cooking from scratch dishes like pizza, chicken, curry, muffins, mince pies and crumble. Our thanks go to HALFF for bringing this project to Littleham.
