Exeter Residents can Earn Money for Charity by Recycling Old Food Containers and Reusable Drinks Bottles

For the first time Exeter residents can recycle their old food storage containers and reusable drinks bottles whilst raising money for their chosen good cause.

These everyday items often end up crowding kitchen cupboards and finding a sustainable way to dispose of them has traditionally been a challenge. This is because they are made of materials that make them more complex and costly to recycle, meaning many councils do not collect them to be recycled and landfill is often the method of disposal.

The new recycling programme is run by Sistema in partnership with TerraCycle and is free to sign up to. By signing up, Exeter residents, schools and businesses can either collect and send in their own well-used containers and bottles, or they can sign-up as a public drop-off location for their community to drop their bottles and containers off to be recycled.

For each item sent for recycling, TerraCycle and Sistema will award monetary donations to the recyclers’ chosen good cause including charities, schools and community initiatives.

Residents can sign up to the Food Storage Container and Reusable Bottle Free Recycling Programme by going to the programme page which can be found on TerraCycle’s website.

Once signed up to the programme, a free shipping label can be downloaded and attached to a box containing the collected items which is sent free of charge to TerraCycle to be recycled.

Julien Tremblin, General Manager for TerraCycle Europe said: “This is a first-of-its-kind recycling programme for the area so we’d urge everyone to get involved and start collecting as much as possible, either from home or from the community.

“It couldn’t be easier to collect and send us these items, and it’s a great way to help your home or community go greener.”
