Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised £700 for Comic Relief by holding a Great Inter-Divisional Bake Off on Red Nose Day.

Competition was fierce as staff from each division in the Trust – Specialist Services, Medicine and Surgery - put their culinary skills to the test and came up with all manner of baked confections for their divisional cake sales. Total proceeds from the cake sales have reached a fantastic £703.

The teams were also asked to select their best looking and best tasting cakes to be presented to the executive tasting panel judges. The panel consisted of Trust Chairman James Brent, Director of Transformation and Organisational Development Tracey Cottam and Jeff Chinnock Head of Stakeholder Communication and Engagement.

After much deliberation the winners were announced. Sally Hackney, Operational Support Manager, took the ‘Best looking cake’ prize for her beautifully designed sponge. Whilst Service Development Lead Radiology Jane Toms was awarded ‘Best tasting cake’ for her scrumptious mojito cake.

Joint organisers of the RD&E Bake Off, Divisional Business Manager Specialist Services Natalie Wickins and Complaints Lead Specialist Services Jodie Blackwell, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the Bake Off and cake sales – either by baking or buying the cakes! Your support means we have raised a great total for such a worthwhile cause.”

Other fundraising activity at the RD&E for Comic relief also included sponsored onesie wearing by the secretaries in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre; more cake sales held in Management Accounts and on Bramble and Okement Wards; and finally fancy dress, funny challenges and raffles took place at First Steps Nursery raising over £326 for the charity.
