After a triumphant success last year, Hospiscare’s Jolly Good Jaunt, a sponsored walk starting and finishing at The Deer Park Country House Hotel in Honiton, is back on Sunday 29th October.

To launch this event, Steve from The Deer Park collected Hospiscare patient Brian Mills and his Volunteer Care Navigator David Woodward, treating them both to a trip in one of the hotel’s classic cars, a Packard V12. Brian, a keen car enthusiast, thoroughly enjoyed the journey which was followed by tea and cake with his family at The Deer Park.

Brian’s daughter speaks movingly about her father’s Care Navigator: “Although Dave has not known Dad for long it feels like we have always known him. He is an easy and nice person to talk to, having him around has given us a sense of comfort and peace of mind at a very difficult time.”

People living with a life-limiting illness sometimes need a helping hand to achieve what is important to them. Volunteer Care Navigators enable our patients to live well at home within their own communities by offering emotional and practical support, helping patients as they navigate their local health care and social services.

The funds raised from the Jolly Good Jaunt at The Deer Park will support Kings House in Honiton, and allow Hospiscare to provide much needed additional care services within the community, including the training of more Volunteer Care Navigators to extend the successful scheme.

The Jolly Good Jaunt is a 7.5 mile sponsored walk from the Deer Park Country House Hotel through the breath-taking beauty of the autumnal East Devon countryside and it’s never too early to sign yourself up for it. Catch the Early Bird offer of £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s before the 20th August.

This year, for those with little legs, there will be a new Children`s Nature Trail within the grounds of the Deer Park, full of activities and treats. The cost is £10 each for under 14s, and £5 each for accompanying adults. Spaces are limited and can be booked by calling 01392 688020. Whether you sign up for the Jolly Good Jaunt or the Children’s Nature Trail, your entry fee will include lunch upon completion.

Without the essential funds that these events raise, the important work of Hospiscare in caring for local patients and their families would be impossible.

For a walk to remember, and to help make lasting improvements to local people’s lives, join the Jolly Good Jaunt today.
