With warmer weather just around the corner, our attention is turning to all things summery and nautical. Gone are the dark winter evenings, pumpkin-spiced lattes and cosy blankets – instead, it’s time to freshen up your home for the upcoming season.

So, whether you live near the sea or you’re simply craving a more laid back interior style, there are plenty of ways to bring the beach vibe into your home in time for spring. Here are some ideas to help you spruce up your space.

Coastal Colours

Achieving a beach vibe in your home starts with creating a colour palette. Ideally, you want a calm, neutral wall colour with white sofas (slipcovered if you have children!) and floaty cotton fabrics. Once you’ve established your backdrop colour, you can decorate with turquoise blue, sea green, aqua and teal to reflect the colours of the ocean.

Light

Beach-themed homes need plenty of light, so replace your curtains with blinds and leave them open during the day. If you must have curtains, a great way to let in extra light is to hang a curtain pole wider than the window. This way, the fabric falls over the wall space during the day rather than shielding light from the windows.

Driftwood

Driftwood has become exceedingly popular in minimalist homes, and it’s not hard to see why. Not only does it echo the natural colours of the beach, but it also has a whimsical character about it that will give your home instant style. You can find beautiful driftwood lamps on the Banbayu website, as well as other artisan interior pieces to compliment your beach theme.

Greenery

Not only do green plants blend beautifully with other natural colours, but they also detoxify the air and help you relax. You can’t have enough greenery in your home, and tropical plants are especially complementary to beachside tones.

Artwork

You don’t have to be an art collector to hang beautiful pieces in your home. There are plenty of gorgeous beach-themed prints to be found on the high-street, but you could also frame your own family snaps of days at the seaside or create a print using seashells. Pebbles and shells also make perfect decorations around the home, and they won’t cost you a penny.

Brass and Gold Fixtures

It may feel counter-intuitive to use dark metallic colours in such a light space, but brass and gold create the perfect contrast to those coastal tones and help to give the room more definition. Combine brass fixtures with dark wooden furniture to recreate the look of the natural elements.

Natural Fibres

When it comes to creating a beach-theme in your home, natural fibre rugs are your friends. Not only are they often soft and easy to clean, but they also help bring texture to a room and tie the other elements together. Opt for a jute or seagrass area rug to create an authentic beach vibe.

Dreaming of days in the sun? Luckily, it’s easy and highly affordable to bring that easy breezy vibe into your home.
