The Devon flag was hoisted to the top of the Spinnakers development at Exmouth Marina to mark the topping out of the building.

Long standing resident and former chairman of the Exmouth Quay Residents’ Association, Ian Dowell was helped by Chris Fayers, Director Eagle One Homes to raise the Devon Flag over the development to mark the roof being put into place.

Joining them were Chris Baxter from Bradleys and Joanna Hole from Jackson Stops who are handling sales of the apartments and Jason Willicombe from Midas.

Flying a local flag from the building once the highest point has been reached is a common builders’ practice. In Holland the ceremony is called “pannenbier” meaning tile beer. The flag is hung out once the top of the building is reached and usually left in place until the owner of the building has provided glass of beer for the workers.

Exmouth Mayor and EDDC's Exmouth Champion John Humphreys said: “It’s great to see this last stage of the marina coming to fruition. This area has been transformed over the last decade and is playing a key role in the regeneration of Exmouth.”

The exclusive development of 14 high quality apartments at the Quay has unrivalled views over the Exe estuary and unusually offers the chance for would-be buyers to tailor the home to their own specification.

“This is a key stage in the development,” says Chris Fayers, Director, Eagle One Homes. “At the moment we are able to offer a rare opportunity for people to be able to bespoke design elements of the apartments such as colour schemes, tiling, siting of electrical points and flooring making each one truly unique. This award-winning approach is something our customers really value.”

Spinnakers is the final apartment building to be constructed on the marina part of Exmouth Quay. The area has been transformed over the last decade from a run-down former docks to a superb development of homes clustered around the marina with fabulous views out over the estuary.

Chris Fayers added: “This is a special moment having been involved continuously from the inception of this fantastic scheme. I used to come here on holiday in the early seventies and never for one moment thought I would be instrumental in transforming this area of Exmouth.”

Stuart O’Higgins, operational manager for Midas, who are constructing Spinnakers said: “Spinnakers is the ninth development that Midas has built at the dockside complex on Shelley Road, Exmouth. We have been involved in this prestigious development for over 12 years now, so it’s fantastic to step back and see the last of these luxury apartments completed.”

Not only have the developments brought employment to the area but the sea wall around the Quay has been rebuilt, public spaces created and the marina developed providing local people with quality leisure facilities
