Jobseekers get a welcome boost as Stagecoach makes discounted bus travel scheme permanent

Stagecoach, one of the UK’s biggest bus operators, has confirmed it is making permanent its ground-breaking discounted bus travel scheme for jobseekers.

The company launched the country’s first long-term nationwide initiative as a six-month pilot in February 2013, giving thousands of jobseekers across the UK a 50% discount on their bus travel to help them find employment.

New figures show jobseekers are making nearly 20,000 discounted bus journeys a month under the scheme, which is funded entirely on a commercial basis by Stagecoach without any public sector support....

Council celebrates having UK’s most successful car sharing scheme

Carsharedevon.com has reached the milestone of attracting more than 10,000 members, making it one of the most successful public car share schemes in the country.

The free service, which allows people in Devon and across the south west to find others to share their journey, either taking turns with the driving, or giving someone a lift in exchange for a contribution to the fuel costs, is commissioned by Devon County Council, in partnership with Plymouth and Torbay Councils.

Brake warns risky law-breaking by drivers won’t be tolerated, as new fixed penalty fines come into force

Brake, the road safety charity, is warning drivers to shape up their act as a new fixed penalty notice for 'careless driving', and higher fines for many other offences like speeding and mobile phone use, come into force today (Friday 16 August).

More than 120 of the free roadshows, organised by Devon County Council, have been held in Exeter, Exmouth, Newton Abbot and Totnes in the past 15 months.
