The Mercure Southgate Exeter has become the first hotel in the city to offer a mobile app so guests can check in before they arrive.

Swapping queues and form-filling for a welcome in the bar or lobby, guests will just need to pick up their key at the start of their stay, at the four star hotel in Southernhay.

The Southgate Exeter is one of just 60 Accor hotels across Europe that has the new mobile App facility.

The aim, says Sales Manager Tamsyn Parsons, is to make sure guests can start enjoying their stay straight away.

“It will mean no more filling in...

Wet and wild fun at Splashdown Quaywest

If you’re looking for a wet and wild fun-filled day out then Splashdown Quaywest in Paignton is, without a doubt, the place to head for.

I took my son Sam and his friend Charlie, both 10, for the day recently, and they had had an absolutely fantastic time.

The park offers eight flume rides including the Devil’s Drop - a heart-stopping ride for thrill seekers, the Wild Kamikaze, Tumbling Tyres and The Screamer. For younger children there’s the Submarine Splash and Tiddler fun pool.

Sam and Charlie’s favourite ride of all was the Tumbling Tyres.

While I didn’t...

Traffic signs are in place warning motorists to slow down, including one at Whiddon Down, the junction prior to Belstone Services. Inspector Mark Sloman, Sector Inspector for West Devon, said: “We are concerned the increased traffic at Belstone Services will create dangerous queues westbound on the A30 at the Okehampton junction. “The junction is on the...
