Flybe announce new Exeter to Deauville route

A new route from Exeter will operate to Deauville (DOL) in Normandy from June 2015.

Flybe, the airline with its headquarters in Exeter, has announced that a twice weekly service will operate on Thursdays and Sundays between 25 June and 26 September 2015.

Exeter Airport Managing Director, Matt Roach, said: “We welcome this new route into France which will give our passengers improved transport links to the Normandy area.

"Northern France is a popular destination for many travellers from the South West and we expect these flights to perform well over the peak summer...

As the Christmas holidays get underway Exeter Airport is expecting to deal with over 20,000 passengers over the two week festive period.

Many will be heading for the winter warmth of Sharm El Sheikh or the Canary Islands but on Saturday there’s a real winter feel about the departures with ski flights to Switzerland and France and a day trip to Lapland to see Santa. The Disneyland Paris flight is also popular at Christmas.

Boost for Devon rail commuters

Rail Minister Claire Perry has welcomed the first major redesign of First Great Western’s mainline timetable in Devon and Cornwall for seven years by waving off the first new 0706 retimed service.

The changes launched yesterday (15 December) see an improved service for the South West, providing an earlier morning direct service from London to Plymouth and Cornwall and shaving over 30 minutes off the current quickest journey time.

Key improvements include:

Drivers warned to take extra care on A380

As darker evenings and winter conditions begin, road users are being reminded to take extra care as they travel along the route of the A380 South Devon Link Road construction site.

Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try - the contractors responsible for constructing the road – are urging motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to exercise caution during the winter months.

Road users will have already seen changes to the road layout including the temporary lane realignments introduced to allow work along the centre line of the A380 to continue....

Exeter sun routes return with Flybe

Exeter Airport’s 2015 Flybe summer routes have been announced by the airline and they include the return of its sun routes to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Palma Mallorca for another season, with choice of up to 14 outbound flights a week operated by 118-seat E195 jet aircraft.

Flybe will operate 16 routes and up to 110 flights a week across its extensive UK and Europe network from Exeter. Flybe tickets are on sale from £29.99 one way including taxes and charges and currently available for travel between 29 March and 3 September 2015.

Flybe links up with Hong Kong

A new airlines’ codeshare agreement will soon see passengers checking-in at Exeter for their Hong Kong destination.

Flybe, with its headquarters at Exeter Airport, has secured an agreement with the Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific allowing travellers to fly on the new four times a week direct service to Hong Kong via a seamless connection at Manchester Airport.

Heart of Devon celebrates record awards win

Tourism businesses in Exeter and the Heart of Devon enjoyed a record haul of trophies coming top in 10 of the 18 awards categories and scooping 22 accolades in all, at the Visit Devon Awards 2014.

The awards were hosted by Radio Devon’s Judi Spiers at The Palazzo at Highbullen Hotel Golf and Country Club, Umberleigh, and cover the whole county.

Altogether, Exeter and the Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership members collected 10 Gold awards, along with the prestigious Winner of Winners Award, won by the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, in Honiton.

Promoting Devon's creative children

Launched in September, Young Creatives is an award scheme created by holidaycottages.co.uk in partnership with Devon Libraries. Aiming to promote creativity in children and young adults, the award scheme asks schools, parents and families to work together to encourage children to spend more time being creative and enjoying Devon, instead of playing video games or watching TV.

Dartmoor hotel unveils spa plans

The family-run Ilsington Country House Hotel on Dartmoor has started work on a new spa due to open in February 2015. Guests staying while the work takes place will enjoy a 30% discount off regular room rates.
