The UK is home to a range of diverse natural landscapes, buzzing cities, charming towns and quaint villages. Whether you’re looking for a quiet weekend getaway by the coast, a quick city break or a new commuter route away from the capital, you truly are spoilt for choice when it comes to travelling by train in the UK. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular Great Northern train routes you can ride and enjoy today:

London to Cambridge - Located less than an hour away from London with Great Northern, Cambridge has long been a hotspot for tourists from both home and abroad. Given the city’s relative proximity to the capital, The London to Cambridge route has also proven a popular choice with commuters. Whether you’re visiting this iconic English location for business or pleasure, it’s well worth checking out local attractions including the Fitzwilliam Museum, King's College Chapel, the Cambridge University Botanical Gardens and the University itself. A trip to Cambridge would also not be complete without attempting to punt the River Cam!

London to Peterborough - Another popular route with outbound travellers from the capital is the charming London to Peterborough line. Located just over 30 miles from Cambridge in the county of Cambridgeshire (and less than 90 minutes away from the capital), Peterborough is perfect for train lovers. Notable rail-related local attractions worth looking out for include the miniature 60-seater Ferry Meadows Railway, Railworld Wildlife Haven and Nene Valley Railway, the official home of beloved kids’ TV train Thomas the Tank Engine. If you’ve had enough of the railways, other top attractions in the city include Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery, the Grasslands Equestrian Centre and Peterborough Lido.

London to King’s Lynn - Another favourite route with UK rail users is the London to King’s Lynn line, which features picturesque views and a journey time of less than 2 hours. Situated in the borough of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, King’s Lynn is a charming port and market town that serves as a great location if you’re looking to get away from it all by the coast. When you’re not soaking up the town’s tangible maritime history, you can enjoy a spot of shopping or leisure and entertainment attractions. Notable highlights include 17-hectare public park The Walks, The Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, the Pilgrimage Trail and the historic South Gate.
