In terms of popularity, few areas within the Algarve compare to Alvor. Packed with character, this city offers everything that you need to have a fantastic time on holiday. Small, charming streets wind their way through town, passing by some of the best dining establishments, boutiques, and bars in the area. As the day winds down, you can spot local residents relaxing at home, watching as the tourists go by.

We have put together a detailed look at some of the most amazing dining and entertainment opportunities available as well as entertainment in the form of beaches, sports and even Alvor boat trips. You can check it all out here.

One of the town's major attractions is its church. The stunning Manueline door has provided the perfect backdrop for countless weddings. The center of town is easiest to navigate on foot. Consider parking your car at the edge of town and walking the rest of the way. Almost all of the streets eventually wind their way down to the riverfront. Here, you can find plenty of opportunities for relaxation. There are a number of small cafés, all of which have outdoor dining available. The views looking out over the Ria Alvor are breathtaking. If you want, you can visit the marina and schedule a trip on a boat. If you prefer to explore on foot, you can also follow some of the paths that lead off into the nearby marshlands and mudflats. This area is perfect for birdwatching.

Nothing compares to Alvor's beaches. Getting to the beach is simple. All that you have to do is pull your car into a parking spot and take a few steps to start enjoying the beautiful sand and sun. The easternmost beaches are tucked away in small coves. Surrounded by beautiful red cliffs, they can get quite small when the tide rises. Despite that, they are still well worth visiting. The westernmost beaches, on the other hand, feature lovely golden sand. These beaches stretch to Meia Praia and the river estuary. You don't have to worry about getting hungry since there are plenty of amazing dining establishments located right on the beach. You can also take part in a lot of fun sports and activities on the water. When you look out over the water, you can spot Lagos on the other side of the bay. If you want to stretch your legs a little bit, try walking on the new boardwalk that is located near the dunes.

Alvor offers an incredibly diverse range of restaurants.Whether you want to dine at a restaurant on the beach so that you can take in the views or visit some of the establishments in the town center, you can find practically any type of cuisine that you prefer. From Italian and Chinese to Indian and Portuguese, there are almost unlimited options to choose from. While you are in the area, be sure to try the fish. It is caught fresh on a daily basis. Grilled fish coupled with a salad and a glass of wine makes for a memorable meal.

Praia da Rocha and Portimão are located nearby, meaning that you can easily reach them by cab.
