Travel is food for the soul and it would take many, many lifetimes to experience all of the wonders of our world. Whilst many of us visit the same famous spots like the Eiffel Tower and Christ the Redeemer, there are some unknown attractions that only the most knowledgeable travelers ever visit. We all like to keep our favorite places secret to stop them from becoming tourist hubs, but there are so many amazing destinations around the world that it is only right to share your knowledge with other people.

Here are six unknown spots around the world that you need to visit soon.

1. Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador

Ecuador has so many amazing sights and experiences but one of the best is Baños de Agua Santa. This tiny town is situated up in the hills of the province if Tungurahua and is built up on natural hot springs. The experts who operate these tailor made tours to South America explain that Baños can be a little difficult to get to but it is well worth the effort. The town is famous for a legendary visit from Mary, mother of Christ, and there is a statue at the exact place where she is said to have appeared. The area surrounding Baños offers some of the best hiking anywhere in South America as well as the opportunity to do canyoning, white water rafting and downhill mountain biking.

2. Udaipur, India

Known as the Venice of the East, Udaipur is a breathtaking city built on a series of lakes. Like every city in Northern India, Udaipur has its own unique architecture and the buildings here look like they haven’t been touched in 1,000 years. One of the most amazing things about Udaipur is the restaurants, and bars that you find on practically every rooftop giving you incredible views across the city. There are so many amazing hotels, boutique art galleries and local craftsmen, and every evening you can see the famous giant bats of Udaipur fly over the rooftops in their thousands on their way to hunt.

3. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

These salt flats are perhaps the most unique terrain anywhere on earth. Accessible only on a guided tour starting in the small Bolivian town of Uyuni, they stretch for hundreds of miles in all directions and could easily be mistaken for a snowy plain. In fact, they were formed by the salt that was left behind by an ancient ocean, long since gone. One of the most incredible things to do on your salt flat tour is to take photographs where the flatness of the terrain and the distant horizon create an optical illusion of distance and perception.

4. Colca Canyon, Peru

The Colca Canyon in Peru provides one of the single best treks anywhere in the world. Home to the nearly extinct giant Andean Condor, when you arrive at the starting point you will find hundreds of tourists taking photos of these gigantic birds as they nest on the cliff side. Once you have marveled at the sheer size of these raptors, it is time to start your hike. The first day is the easiest as you make your way down one side of the canyon into the valley at the bottom. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and the hiking itself is not too strenuous. That night, you can sleep in a traditional house to recharge your batteries before waking up just before sunrise when it's time for the more grueling second day and the hike up the other side of the canyon.

5. Valletta, Malta

When we think of trips to the Mediterranean, most of us don’t look past Spain, Italy or Greece, but the island of Malta is like nowhere in Europe. Because of its geographical location, Malta is a unique mix of cultures, civilizations and religions. The ancient capital city of Valletta combines Romans, Byzantine and Moorish architecture. Valletta has a really cool mix of people from different countries which means you are sure to meet some interesting characters on your visit.

6. Busan, South Korea

South Korea has become so popular over the last decade because of the explosion of K-Pop and Korean cosmetics and beauty standards. Busan is the second biggest city in Korea and is located on the Eastern coast of the Korean peninsula. Here, you will find incredible golden beaches, amazing shopping opportunities, world-class spas and retreats and fascinating Korean history and culture.

These days, the world has never been smaller and there are so many amazing places to visit. So many of us stick to the same few places for our vacations but there are endless possibilities for travel destinations. Try out some of the places on this list and you will really broaden your horizons.
