Peninsula celebrates budding success of new venture

Peninsula Private Medical Services opened its doors to invited guests for the ‘official’ launch Waterloo Court Health and Wellbeing Hub near Uffculme.

With the service already up and running, and word spreading fast, the founders were keen to celebrate successes so far and have the opportunity to showcase the impressive capabilities to invited guests.

Radiance MediSpa, Exeter’s first and only MediSpa led by Dr Ros and Katie Debenham, has now opened its very own hair salon. The clinic, which also includes a variety of complementary therapies, is dedicated to bringing together a complete environment for the promotion of health and beauty.

The NHS in Devon has teamed up with award-winning department store John Lewis to find out why its customers have such a great experience.

Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) chief nurse Jenny Winslade said the CCG wanted to learn from John Lewis “hearing how the department store approaches customer satisfaction could help the NHS translate this into improved patient care.”

96% of men survive testicular cancer

Survival for testicular cancer has risen by almost 30 per cent in the last 40 years, with nearly all men now beating the disease, according to figures published by Cancer Research UK.

These latest figures show that more than 96 per cent of men now survive testicular cancer in the UK, compared with less than 70 per cent in the 1970s. These improvements are largely thanks to the drug cisplatin, which Cancer Research UK helped to develop.

Around 2,300 cases of testicular cancer are diagnosed each year in the UK and it is the most common cancer in men aged 15-49.

Devon County Council is rolling out a programme of health checks for almost 50,000 Devon residents aged between 40 and 74.
