A county-wide campaign to help parents care for their children when they have minor ailments like coughs and colds, without using unnecessary antibiotics, has been launched across Devon.

Waist fat can double mortality risk

Researchers at the Annals of Internal Medicine, have published new findings exploring the relationship between BMI and waist-to-hip ratio, and waist circumference, and increased cardiovascular mortality.

The study looked at 15,184 adults aged 18-90 years old and showed that those with a healthy BMI but with excess weight around their middle were up to twice as likely to die early as people with high BMI but with normal fat distribution.

Members of the public are invited to an exhibition of clinical research currently being undertaken by clinicians at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, the leading research hospital in the South West Peninsula.

The event takes place on 5th November from 11.30am-1pm in the Research Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building on the hospital’s Wonford site. 75% of suicides are among men

Statistics show that men are half as likely as women to be diagnosed with depression but three times more likely to end their own lives.

The failure to understand male depression is due to a continuing silence about the emotional world of men, according to a study to be showcased during the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) Festival of Social Science.

An exciting campaign to make Exeter the most active city in the South West stepped into gear.

Get Active Exeter is a growing partnership of public and private sector organisations, including local media, large employers and councils, who have joined together in a bid to make the city the most active in the South West by 2018.
