East Devon District Council and Natural Devon are asking people to ditch computer games, TV and social media in favour of experiencing the refreshing reality of the great outdoors as part of May’s Naturally Healthy Month.

East Devon District Council Countryside Team Leader, Tim Dafforn said: ‘’There are a range of activities people can get involved with this month. Whether it’s a bike ride along Seaton Wetlands, a hike at Knapp Copse or an evening of stargazing at Trinity Hill, there really is something for everyone.

‘’Naturally Healthy Month is a fantastic initiative to encourage people to get outdoors and we are very pleased to support it. There is an amazing array of activities and sites available on your doorstep in East Devon and we hope that this campaign will raise awareness of the wide varieties of activities that people can experience in the countryside.’’

East Devon District Council's Porftolio holder for the Environment, Councillor Iain Chubb said: ‘’We are very lucky to live in East Devon, the Countryside team provides a fantastic service managing sites that are accessible to the public for walking, picnicking, cycling and more. The Naturally Healthy Month initiative is a great way to encourage people to explore somewhere new and to take part in activities, which they have not tried before.’’

There are a wide variety of events organized by the Countryside team, which members of the public can participate in throughout May, ranging from wild food foraging to bird ringing demonstrations and organised walks.

The Countryside team also manages over ten sites, including the new Cranbrook Country Park and Community and Local Nature Reserves in Honiton, Sidmouth, Exmouth and Seaton.

People who take part in something different during May are encouraged to share their experiences on social media by tagging @Devon_LNP @wildeastdevon and @eastdevon on Twitter and liking the East Devon Countryside Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/eastdevoncountryside/
