A NEW café has opened to offer an informal, supportive place to go for people around Exeter experiencing issues with alcohol or drugs. The Exeter Recovery Café was officially opened by CEO of System Six Kitchens Ian Foster, who supplied the café kitchen, tables and chairs as a competition prize, with Deputy Mayor Cllr Peter Holland. Over half (60%) of people in the South West are putting off seeking a dementia diagnosis for up to a year or more a study carried out by Alzheimer’s Society has found.

Dementia is the most feared health condition in the UK, perhaps explaining also why almost two-thirds (63%) of people in the South West surveyed felt a diagnosis would mean their life was over.

Alzheimer’s Society in Exeter is encouraging residents to confront dementia this Dementia Awareness Week (15-21 May).

Charity staff will be providing information about dementia and how to live well with the condition at the John Lewis store in Exeter on Tuesday 17 May.

Majority of people in SW clueless about asthma attacks

New data released today by the charity Asthma UK highlights that almost three quarters of people in the South West (70%) would not know what to do if someone were to have a potentially life threatening asthma attack.

A DEVON public health campaign that helps parents care for their children when they have minor illnesses like common coughs and colds, without the unnecessary use of antibiotics, has been shortlisted for a national award.
