With iconic scenery, un-interrupted seascapes and diverse wildlife Devon has some of the best natural environments in the country right here on our doorstep.

The Devon Local Nature Partnership is urging all of us to take a step outside to feel the benefits of the spring air and #LetNatureNurture. To mark the beginning of Naturally Healthy Month this May they have put together a host of events for all ages to enjoy.

The Devon Local Nature Partnership is a partnership of over 100 organisations, many of whom are running special events to showcase the many and varied ways that people can get outdoors and have a go at an activity. Events range from evening canoe safaris and rainbow activity trails to gardening and dog walking. They are all seeking friendly, fun and informative ways of building people’s confidence to access the great outdoors and help them to find different ways to connect with nature.

“Naturally Healthy Month goes from strength to strength each year” said Louise Evans from Active Devon which is co-ordinating the month long campaign on behalf of the LNP “. The partnership is passionate about building people’s confidence to visit new places and try new activities. There are some great activities to try from ‘What’s that Bird?’ and ‘Digging with Dogs’ to Garden walks in Rosemoor for dementia sufferers and carers. We’d like to say ‘Go on. You’ve got so much to gain from giving one of our many events a try”.

This year’s Naturally Healthy Month has a particular focus on the benefits of the great outdoors to people’s mental health and in combatting social and rural isolation.  To coincide with Mental Health Awareness week (7-14 May), the Devon Local Nature Partnership will be promoting groups and activities where people can meet new people, share stories and enjoy the scenery on their doorsteps, to boost their mental health and wellbeing.

The Devon Local Nature Partnership is also offering prizes to organisations that make and share a short video about an event, or about the benefits of being outdoors and active in nature. There’s a short video about the Naturally Healthy video competition on Active Devon’s Youtube Channel.

Join in with Naturally Healthy Month by sharing your experiences and your special secret natural space during Naturally Healthy Month with @activedevon and use the hashtag #LetNatureNurture. Keep an eye out on Active Devon’s social media for competitions and prizes.
