Quality inspectors rate Devon care homes and GP practices higher than the national average

Nearly a quarter of Devon GP practices are outstanding according to quality inspectors, compared to just 4 percent of practices in England. And the percentage of Devon’s care homes rated outstanding is twice the national average.

The data, published by the health and care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), is being loudly applauded by Devon County Council and NEW Devon CCG.

19 of 435 care homes in Devon (4 percent), inspected by the CQC, are considered ‘outstanding’ homes, compared to just 2 percent of care homes in England overall.

People in Exeter and north, east and mid Devon who have bipolar or cyclothymic disorder are being recruited for a new scientific study.

Researchers from the University of Exeter are investigating a new treatment for bipolar mood swings.

The study is for adults with bipolar or cyclothymic disorder who find their mood is quite variable even between episodes of depression or mania/hypomania.

Friends, family and carers of women with learning disabilities are being urged to help ensure that they have regular breast screenings.

It follows the latest NHS data which shows that significant numbers of women with learning disabilities in Devon did not have a breast screening during 2016. The chance of surviving a cardiac arrest has been boosted, thanks to the staff at Bigwave Media in Exeter and the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The creative agency decided to join the BHF’s force of Nation of Lifesavers by training ten of their staff in Exeter, to learn life-saving CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) skills.
