Plastic surgery has been a topic of conversation for decades. Now that more and more new procedures are less invasive and sometimes less expensive, more people than ever are going under the knife in order to make little tweaks on their bodies and faces.

Especially in the age of social media, people are taking their look and their brand more seriously. With so many of us in the “public eye,” with or without celebrity, plastic surgery has become a fairly quick way to experiment with our looks. While plastic surgery was a bit more of a taboo years ago, it’s now more accepted in the wider culture to be excited about your experiences with modification, and even to promote those experiences.

Now that there is so much out there in the plastic surgery realm, there are tons of topics being discussed that surround it. With more advancements being made, there is always some new procedure to try and topic to discuss. The hottest topics on plastic surgery for 2019 are as follows.

Liposuction stands as the number one procedure performed in the US

For the past 10 years, liposuction has been the most popular procedure performed in the U.S. and its momentum doesn’t seem to be getting any slower. Many people think that breast augmentations might take the top spot, but in fact, liposuction has always been more popular. This might be due to the fact that the procedure attracts people of all genders and ages to get rid of their problem areas. Liposuction can either take fat from one part of the body and inject it into another (to create a more attractive shape), or it could simply get rid of the fat altogether. With technology and technique only becoming more advanced, patients are getting better results from liposuction than ever before. Just make sure you go to a trusted surgeon like those at Lexington ps.

There are so many lifts.

There are a few different types of lifts now accessible through plastic surgery, with three of the most popular being the body lift, the thread lift, and brow lift.

Most people who are even a little educated on lifts will probably know the brow lift, which is said to be like a mini version of a face lift. While the face lift is for those whom are getting older and want a bit of a pick me up (excuse the pun), the brow lift is being done more often by a younger crowd. In fact, the brow lift used to be quite invasive in that the surgeon had to slit the forehead from ear to ear, but now the endoscopic brow lift allows the surgeon to only minorly invade the forehead area with small incisions. This also makes for a speedier recovery.

The thread lift is a newer procedure, with some kinks that still need to be worked out as far as technology goes. Technology can only keep up with our needs so much. The thread lift aims to be the much less invasive face lift, where instead of the skin being pulled back against the face in order to make the skin look newer and smoother, the thread lift aims to do the same thing with a series of threads embedded into the skin. The problem lies in the fact that the thread can be visible beneath the skin, and can come with significant health risks like hematoma and nerve damage. While plastic surgeons are hopeful that techniques and technology will improve, they’re still not entirely on board with this procedure yet.

The body lift is something that not a lot of people know is possible. This procedure actually attempts to lift and shape the body, which contrary to liposuction, doesn’t just remove fat. What the body lift was developed for was to help those who’ve gone through a massive weight loss. For those who’ve lost a significant amount of weight, there is often excess skin left over that sags and is unsightly. The body lift acts as a sculpting technique as it rids the body of extra skin. This way the patient can enjoy their new and slimmer body without having to worry about the side effect of sagging skin. This procedure came after the rise of surgery developed specifically for weight loss. The body lift is often the final step after losing more than one hundred pounds.

Plastic surgery is no longer for a specific type of person.

As plastic surgery becomes more widely accepted, it’s spread into different demographics. Now more people from all walks of life are getting cosmetic procedures done, as plastic surgery has now become more affordable as well.

While women still make up the majority of those who decide to go under the knife, men are becoming more nipped and tucked as well. There are tons of surgeries that cater to men as well as women, and now men feel more comfortable sculpting their bodies and faces to their vision.

The younger generation is also getting in on plastic surgery procedures while they can. And those don’t just include the odd breast augmentation or rhinoplasty, but also preventative procedures like brow lifts, Botox, and lip injections. It’s actually becoming more widely accepted to participate in these procedures. Especially due to social media influencing and the need to compete against aging.

There are also more ethnically diverse patients getting into plastic surgery. In the last few years, more people from the black and Hispanic communities are getting plastic surgery than ever. And not only that, but couples are also choosing to get plastic surgery together, though it might be easier for them to nurse the other during their respective recovery times.

We’re getting rid of the taboo.

Plastic surgery is now officially socially acceptable. Where it was once a secret that many people who’d gone under the knife didn’t want others to know about, now plastic surgery is for everyone, and we don’t care who knows it.
