Bad health habits you should stop in 2020

As an adult, you’re probably aware of the bad health habits that could lead to serious problems but you continue to indulge in them because of convenience and addiction. Most people start the year with a resolution to improve their health but don’t follow through because of a lack of motivation. Our sedentary lifestyle doesn’t make it any better. There are some poor health habits that we’re going to highlight and how to stop so that you’re living a healthier and richer life.

Skip Breakfast

It is easy to skip breakfast, especially when you’re running late for work or when things don’t seem to be in order. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal as it provides the energy that is needed throughout the day. When you skip breakfast, the system automatically slows down in an attempt to store the calories. This ultimately affects the metabolism rate and you might yourself having trouble trying to concentrate. You should ensure that you’re eating within two hours of waking up. It can be disastrous to skip breakfast after working out. You will immediately feel the effects once you start on your day’s activities.

Eating the Kid’s Leftovers

There is a reason why kids get special meals. When you eat the leftovers left by the kids, you will be adding extra calories. You might think it’s not a big deal but the effects will be visible to see overtime. As much as it will be tempting, you should only be eating what is on your plate. You need to know when you’re full so that you don’t continue. As an adult, you’re already aware of the portions that you’re supposed to take for you to be full.  When you’re full, the leftovers can always be packed for lunch.

Drinking Excess Alcohol

The labels are usually clear. Excessive consumption of alcohol is harmful to your health. There is also the risk of addiction which can lead to serious complications if it is not handled in time. Drinking alcohol could also lead to weight problems. A glass of wine is fine but it should be noted that for every five-ounce of alcohol, you add 120 calories. This is without adding any nutrients to the body. Long-term drinking could result in serious health complications. Make sure you’re drinking a glass of water before taking any kind of alcoholic drink. There are alternatives ways of relaxing and enjoying yourself that don’t necessarily involve alcohol. You can decide to make juicing as a hobby. Can you juice wheatgrass roots? This is a question that you might ask yourself when exploring alternatives to alcohol.

Distracted Driving

This is the same as driving while impaired. Operating heavy machinery requires that you’re focused on the road. When you’re texting and driving, you’re not likely to pay attention to their surroundings. You will not only be endangering your life but also of other road users as well. Put away all the distractions on the road. If you have to talk while driving, make sure that it is hands-free so that your eyes are on the road. It will also be carelessness when you decide to drive while under the influence. Driving is already dangerous and you don’t want to make it worse by being distracted.

Sleeping on the Couch

When you were a kid, you’d wonder why your old man kept sleeping on the couch. As an adult, you will have a lot of things to do during the day and a lot more going through your mind at night. You could try watching an episode of your favorite show but you find yourself sleeping on the couch. Learn to listen to your body. It will not be a good idea trying to force yourself to do something when you’re well aware that the body is fatigued. Make sure that you’re getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every day.

Eating Quickly

Food needs to be enjoyed. When you eat too quickly, you’ll be doing a lot of harm than good. It can cause acid reflux which is an uncomfortable experience, especially when you’re outdoors. It is recommended to take your time with the food so that you can at least enjoy the taste and flavors. There is a legitimate reason why you should be rushing food even if you’re hungry. Experts recommend taking at least 20 minutes when eating so that you let it digest well and also enjoy it in the process.
