With the tier system now in place, many areas of the country are going into various levels of lockdown. Some are in full lockdown like Wales and Scotland, and other areas seem to be teetering on the brink of moving up a tier, depending on the level of Covid virus in their area.

Here in Exeter, Covid cases do seem to be stabilising, but many people are still reluctant to get back to “normal” or even embrace a new normal if it means socialising with others.

Time To Get In Shape

It’s hard to think about staying active whilst trying to stay in, and it may seem pointless to start a new exercise regime if there’s a chance we’ll be asked to stay home again, but the truth is that there has never been a better time to get in shape than right now.

Getting in shape is good for your body, building your immune system and helping to reduce the lockdown load, and it’s good for the NHS, as healthier, stronger people are less likely to become seriously ill with Covid and require a stay in hospital.

Here are four ways you can stay active at home, lockdown, or no lockdown.

Break Out the Wii

This tip is proper old school, but why not break out that old Nintendo Wii and balance board? There are lots of fitness games available for the whole family, and what’s more, the games are now really cheap to buy second hand, and you’ll have great fun while you’re playing them.

It’s not just the Wii either; lots of games consoles have options for fitness and dancing games that makes exercising fun for everyone, and who doesn’t like a challenge?

Get Into Jogging

Have you tried a Couch to 5k challenge? This kind of challenge is a great idea for new runners and helps get them into shape without being too gruelling. You don’t need much to begin, just the app and a decent pair of running shoes and calf support to help avoid injury. The bamboo calf supports from Bearhug are a great option for you to buy.

If jogging isn’t your thing, try the Couch to 50km cycling challenge instead!

Try a YouTube Workout

YouTube is an absolute gold mine when it comes to workouts! From Joe Wicks to Zumba routines, you’ll get to work out with some of the world’s top trainers, right in your living room, no special equipment needed.

Take A Virtual Dance Class

Dancing with new partners has been off the cards for months now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn at home.

Many dance teachers are offering virtual sessions for you and your family to get them into dancing. Others are simply there to help you improve.

Whether you’re doing jazz, modern, tap, or even swing jive, teachers up and down the country are ready to give you the tips you need, right in the comfort of your own home!
