Crediton-based Sandford Orchards scoops more awards for non-alcoholic cider

Devon-based Sandford Orchards is celebrating a fantastic year of awards for its new non-alcoholic cider, Red Zero. It has just been named ‘Low and No Alcohol Category Champion’ by Taste of the West after winning Best Non-Alcoholic Cider at the World Cider Awards, Best New Drink at the Food Drink Devon Awards, Gold from The Farm Shop and Deli Awards and Silver from the Great British Food Awards.

Food Poverty Project Poised to win ‘The People’s Millions’

Local charity The Devon and Cornwall Food Association has been shortlisted as the potential recipient of up to £50,000 of People’s Millions Lottery Funding – an opportunity that will enable them to expand the vital work they do to redistribute in-date food that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Their project, Devon and Cornwall Food Action, is one of two projects chosen for the South West region but your help is now sought to secure the funding. A public vote on the 26 November will decide which project wins this year’s cash and your votes are needed.

Following a fine summer for growing grapes in the UK, Devon vineyards have a lot to celebrate and an Exeter city centre food store is promoting their success. A range of locally produced Devon wines is being launched at the Real Food Store on Tuesday 19 November with a special wine tasting evening between 6pm and 8pm.

Three vineyards, all within 12 miles of the city, are supplying wine to the community owned store which opened in March 2011. Pebblebed, at Clyst St George, Yearlstone, at Bickleigh, and Manstree based at Shillingford St George.

This year's Christmas Market in Exeter will run from Thursday 21 November until Thursday 19 December, on Cathedral Green. The Christmas lights ceremony will also take place on 21 November from 4pm-8pm, with Rob Baxter, Exeter Chiefs' Head Coach; Paul Tisdale, Manager of Exeter City Football Club and members of the Lympstone Military Wives Choir taking centre stage to jointly switch on the city’s Christmas lights during the event at 6.30pm.
