This summer, Brixham’s Fish Market will come alive with flavour and festivity as the South West Sardine Festival arrives on Sunday 03 August 2025, bringing a vibrant new celebration to the heart of one of Britain’s most historic fishing towns.

Free to attend and running from 12:00 to 21:30, the festival invites locals and visitors alike to experience a day inspired by coastal traditions, from the South West to the Mediterranean. At its heart is the British sardine - abundant, sustainable, and caught right here in the South West.

Help with the apple harvest at Killerton’s ‘Big Pick Up’

The orchards at Killerton Estate, near Exeter, are full to bursting this autumn.

On the weekends of 5/6 October and 13/14 October, from 11am until 4pm each day, families are invited to head into the orchard to help collect up apples to be pressed for Killerton’s award-winning cider.

The ‘Big Pick Up’ is a free family activity, with mini wheelbarrows for the children and free cider tasters in the orchard for the adults. There is also an apple quiz and members of Killerton’s countryside team will be on hand to help with the answers.

Free Food Hygiene Awareness training for Exeter's food business operators

Exeter’s food business operators are being given the opportunity to find out how to achieve a top hygiene rating as part of a free course run by Exeter City Council's Environmental Health Services .

The event, on Wednesday 25 September, focuses on the prevention of food poisoning through good hygiene practices such as temperature control and the avoidance of cross-contamination. Devon Pubs have strong showing at the Great British Pub Awards.

Six pubs from across Devon made the finals of the national awards celebrating an exceptional quality. In an award ceremony tonight hosted by the Inbetweeners ’ Greg Davies, over 100 pubs from across Britain will be vying for awards in 17 categories. Exeter bakers face fresh competition as premium retailers hit the high street.

From next week, the Tesco Metro in the city centre will stock Krispy Kreme doughnuts in an in-store cabinet.

The new self-service cabinets will offer customers more than 12 varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, freshly baked in Bristol that morning.

Both the Tesco Metro and the Exeter Vale Tesco Extra will open self-service cabinets next Wednesday (18 September).

Krispy Kreme UK now has over 400 doughnut cabinets across the UK as well as 52 dedicated stores.
