SANDFORD ORCHARDS’ RED ZERO NAMED BEST NO-ALCOHOL CIDER IN THE WORLD

Devon-based Sandford Orchards’ Red Zero has just won gold and been named Best Non-Alcoholic Cider at the World Cider Awards, less than a year after it was launched. This latest achievement follows gold awards from Taste of the West and The Farm Shop and Deli Awards, with undoubtedly more to come.

Devon farm supplies cheese for Virgin Trains’ new onboard menu

Quicke’s cheddar cheese is to be featured on Virgin Train’s new menu.

The menu, developed for Virgin trains exclusively by the award winning chef James Martin will feature Quicke’s cheese for first class customers.

The Quicke family have been farming in Newton st Cyres for nearly 500 years, making traditional clothbound cheddar.

The multi award winning cheddar is created using traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation with milk from their specially bred herd of grass fed cows.

South West urged to face freezer fears

Research released as part of Food Safety Week 4-10 July has shown 64 percent of people in the South West have unnecessarily thrown food away in the past month.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) are urging the public in the South West to face their “freezer fear” to tackle the issue of food waste.

FSA’s research showed that 33 percent of people interviewed said it is dangerous to freeze cooked meat, and 41 percent believe food becomes unsafe to eat while in the freezer.

On Friday 24th June, Powderham Castle is inviting everyone to join in the National Cream Tea Day celebrations at the Castle.

Wholesome Devon cream teas will be served in abundance at the Courtenay Café, situated in the courtyard of Powderham Castle, with lashings of full-fat Langage Farm clotted cream and locally produced jam and tea.

The Castle will be open as usual and following a delicious cream tea, visitors can join a guided tour of the Castle and walk through the Castle grounds to burn off any extra calories.

Chunk of Devon team celebrate 10th anniversary

The Chunk of Devon team celebrated the companies 10th anniversary on Friday 17th. Welcomed aboard the Pride of Exmouth, by the crew from Stuart Line Cruises , on a sunny June evening they were all dressed to kill for a casino/James Bond style party. Pretty much the whole team were able to be there with their partners.

Chunk of Devon had a few tricky times in the early days and even featured on the TV programme 'Businesses in Crisis' with Sir Gerry Robinson back in 2009. That's all behind them now.
