Tickets for the 2017 Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink are now on sale online - a great Christmas present for foodie friends and family!

Powderkeg Brewery, based in Woodbury Salterton near Exeter, has gone straight to the top with its first award, having won Best Lager at The Beer Awards for its pilsner ‘Cut Loose’.

The Beer Awards are run by the world-renowned IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition), with the beers judged in a blind tasting by leading figures from the international beer industry. Winning ‘Best in Show’ in its category, Cut Loose was described as ‘one of the 16 best beers in the world’. Wagons Ho! for Tar Barrels

Rusty Pig’s food wagons will be hitting the streets at Ottery St Mary’s Flaming Tar Barrels on November 5.

The wagons have been created from cattle trailers; the original was six-foot but the concept has now ‘gone large’ and the latest model is a twelve-foot monster. Both wagons have a wood-fired oven on board.

The food wagons are being organised and run for free, and profits will be donated to the carnival committee. Last year, over £1,000 was taken from the sale of Rusty Pig cuisine.

Jamie Coleman, head chef at Saunton Sands Hotel, has been named South West Chef of the Year for 2016 at an awards ceremony at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Monday October 24.

Chefs were required to create a three-course menu made up of compulsory elements; loin of venison, whole brill and all other ingredients from a mystery basket. The menus were then judged by a prestigious panel of 12 judges including Michael Caines MBE and Michael Wignall.
