Costa Coffee, has expanded its partnership with Too Good To Go, the world’s largest food waste fighting app, from nine to 100 stores across the UK.

After a successful trial across nine stores, Costa Coffee fans are now able to select from 100 participating UK stores to save delicious unsold food from going to waste. With only the customer’s smartphone needed, consumers simply download the free app, purchase the food from a nearby store and collect at the designated pick up time. The collection can consist of three or more items which collectively would total £10, all reduced to the lower price of £3.

In 2018, Costa Coffee became the first large-scale UK coffee chain to partner with Too Good To Go. With this figure now at 100 stores covering London, Edinburgh, Exeter, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport, the results have seen a staggering 10,355 Costa Coffee meals collected through the app, building on the success that the Too Good To Go team have seen since launching the app in 2016, with their ‘Waste Warriors’ saving over one million meals from going to waste**.

Victoria Moorhouse, Head of Sustainability at Costa Coffee, said: We are delighted to be growing our partnership with Too Good to Go, offering customers the chance to purchase unsold food from our stores. We are committed to playing our part in reducing food waste across our business, working with organisations such as Too Good to Go, whilst also enabling all our store teams to donate food surplus to local charities, and more recently, signing up to the Governments “Step up to the Plate” Pledge.

“We have seen some fantastic results working with Too Good to Go, preventing over 25,000kg of CO2 emissions through customers using the app to date. We are looking forward to extending the scheme in the future.”

Hayley Conick, UK MD at Too Good To Go, said: "We're thrilled to have rolled out our partnership with Costa Coffee across 100 of their UK stores. We've saved over 10,000 meals together to date and now we can have even more impact. Food waste is a massive global issue that contributes heavily to climate change, yet over two-thirds of Brits don't realise that it causes greenhouse gas emissions. By working with brands like Costa Coffee we can make a dent in the vast amount of perfectly edible food that ends up in the bin every day and make a big difference for the planet."
