Call for more foster carers to improve stability for children in care

Children are being moved too many times between foster families because of the need for more foster carers across the UK, the Fostering Network is warning today with the publication of new survey results. The survey found that in the last two years three in five foster carers (61 per cent) have cared for children who have previously had two or more moves between homes. Two in five (43 per cent) have looked after at least one child who has been moved four or more times, while one in ten (11 per cent) have cared for children who have had ten or more moves before coming to live with them....

Exeter City receive Family Excellence Award from the Football League

Exeter City are delighted to announce that the club has been awarded the Family Excellence Award by the Football League. The announcement was made at St Andrew’s, the home of Birmingham City, on Wednesday 8 May. Each of the 72 Football League clubs receives two visits a year from a mystery family who judge the club on more than 70 supporter touch-points on a matchday. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is to attend the first day of the Devon County Show on Thursday 16 May at Westpoint, Exeter.

It will be the Duchess of Cornwall’s third visit to the county’s largest annual event where she will be the guest of The Hon George Lopes, this year’s Show President.

Crate company brings children’s drawings to life in time for Father’s Day

We've all stuck our children's drawings on pin boards, on the wall and even on the fridge, but inevitably they end up dog-eared and stained and slowly walking to the bin.

Community Wildlife Cafe in Belmont Park

WILDLIFE CAFE

The Newtown Community Association cafe on Sunday 12 May will be partnered by the Devon Wildlife Trust. The event, open from 2pm-4pm, will include DWT Terrestrial Conservation Officer Emily Stallworthy who will have a stand with information on wildlife gardening, the bumblebee campaign and what they hope to do in Newtown.

There may also be an opportunity to make seed bombs! It's a great activity to do with children, they can get a bit messy (and adults as well!) and then take the seed bomb home to plant in the garden.

Exeter City’s Football in the Community Trust is once again running a full programme of popular children’s football roadshows during the May half term, following the success of the Easter events which were attended by around 500 children from across the region.

A series of special events for anyone interested in fostering continue next month, as Devon County Council continues its drive to recruit carers.

The Council is hosting a mixture of information events and stalls in a bid to encourage more people to consider becoming foster families and give those interested the chance to find out whether fostering would be suitable for them.

Devon has over 700 children in care, and just over 300 fostering households. However many current foster carers are approaching retirement age so the County Council needs to recruit new carers.
