Coping Strategies for Families of Alcoholics

It’s fair to say that alcoholism doesn’t just affect the person that is living with it. While they are, of course, the primary concern and they’re the one that needs help to get their life back on track, it can be a challenging period of time for friends, colleagues and family alike.

For family members in particular seeing a loved one go through addiction can be tough, and it’s important to ensure they get the alcohol help they need. For you, as a family member, it’s also valuable to find methods and strategies to look after yourself and the rest of the family too. So here are...

Exeter's first yoga classes for children!

Exeter’s first Yoga for Children classes have now been launched by Annelie Carver (former partner of Michelmores and Ashfords and more recently General Counsel and Company Secretary of Flybe).

Annelie Carver has been teaching yoga to adults for a number of years ( www.lookwithinyoga.com ) and decided to train to teach yoga to children earlier this year. Annelie had found that most adults normally come to yoga later on in life due to stress, illness or injury and most of her students commented that they wished they had discovered yoga much earlier in life.

But if your teenager is happy about the idea of having a birthday party, here are a few tips to ensure things run smoothly.

Talk to Your Teen

Adoption enquiries fall

Enquiries from potential adopters are falling across Devon amid reports of fewer ‘young children’ being available.

Local Adoption Agency and charity, Families for Children, are appealing to those who have ever thought about adoption not to hold back, and possibly considering opening their hearts to an older child, sibling group or those with extra needs, who are waiting and will wait the longest.

Figures to the end of June this year show that despite being an abundance of approved adopters waiting they cannot be matched to the some 47 children in local authority foster care...

Fifth of SW parents feel lonely

Over a fifth (21 per cent) of parents in the South West feel lonely and isolated, regularly feeling cut off from friends and other sources of support, according to new findings released today by charity Action for Children.

The research has unearthed a shocking scale of loneliness that for nearly a quarter (22 per cent) of people in the region has become worse since becoming a parent. The importance of having a support network to rely on was also highlighted by parents the charity spoke to, with more than half (60 per cent) saying it is particularly important to have friends who...

Whether it is the big monthly shop, or the smaller weekly one, one thing both supermarkets and consumers alike strive for is a slicker, more efficient shopping experience.

Online shopping means goods can be delivered direct to your door, whilst self-scan-and-pack checkouts, and the more recently introduced hand-held scan-and-pack systems all make shopping easier for consumers, for many, it is the end of the shop that causes the most stress – the dreaded bag pack.

In 2010, Paul Doyle, a father regularly in charge of the weekly shop, created a nifty invention to help with the...

Following the government’s announcement that pension relief is to be reduced from April next year, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is reminding everyone that any unused relief from the past three years is still open to them.

However, what some people may not realise is that unused contributions from the last three years can be carried forward...
