Pawesome day out with pen farthing

Looking for the perfect way to round off the summer holidays? Head to Pawesome Day Out, a lively, family-friendly charity event on Sunday 31st August from 12pm at St Martin’s Football Club, Exminster—where fun, food, and four-legged friends take centre stage!

Organised by Claudia Pinn of Claudia’s Canines and the UK–Sri Lanka-based charity Lucas Helps Dogs, this event aims to raise vital funds for street animals in Sri Lanka. Proceeds will directly support spay/neuter clinics, emergency treatments, and life-saving vaccinations for dogs and cats in desperate need.

Exeter’s phoenix is brought back to life

The mechanical phoenix who sits at the entrance of the Exeter Phoenix has been reanimated after several years of inactivity.

Now, at certain points of the day, you can witness this metal sculpture stand up, take a look around and flex its majestic wings.

Go along and see it for yourself - it will awaken daily at 10am (when the building opens), noon, 1pm, 2pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7.30pm and 10pm.

Antara creative team come together for the first time

An Exeter-based company, Interwoven Productions, welcomed Indian dance star Ajeesh K Balakrishnan to the South West in a launch party attended by The Exeter Daily Editor Natalie Vizard and held at Evolution’s Merlin’s Cave, Fore St, Exeter.

Ajeesh comes fresh from the world-renowned Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bangalore and has toured Europe and Asia with them.

Local company Chandni Chowk are giving the arts a boost this summer in their support of a new Anglo/Indian dance production show at Exeter Phoenix 15 August, 2013.

Antara combines the talents of international artist Ajeesh K Balakrishnan, fresh from the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bangalore, with Exeter-based dancer Kay Crook.

Antara is a truly inter-continental collaboration that interweaves dance and narrative poetry into a powerful love story.

Kapes bentoni – A well travelled specimen from the RAMM’s collection

Kapes was a small lizard-like parareptile some 100mm long.

It had only been found in Triassic of Russia until a tiny jaw was found in the Middle Triassic Otter Sandstone at Sidmouth in 2002.

230-240 million years old, the Sidmouth specimen is named after Mike Benton, Professor of Vertebrate Palaeontology at Bristol University, who has made major studies of the Otter Sandstone fauna. His finds at Sidmouth were donated to RAMM.
