Miley Cyrus has sparked controversy after appearing to light up a joint at the MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam. The 20-year old took the rolled up joint from her handbag whilst accepting the best video award for ‘wrecking ball’. The singer also opened the awards show with a performance of ‘We Can’t Stop’ accompanied by a latex clad dwarf. "I couldn't fit this award in my purse but I did find this," she said before lighting the joint. Although Marijuana is legal in Amsterdam and is unlikely to result in a criminal conviction the move is sure to further controversy surrounding the...

Christmas season phone review

The best and brightest

It’s been a year of amazing smartphones and, as we’re coming up to Christmas, we thought we’d list the top five smartphones on the market right now.

iPhone 5C

Touted as the new, cheap, practical iPhone, you may disagree when you see the price tag (£469 inc VAT for a 16GB). It’s basically an iPhone 5 in a different shell and with fewer features. It feels more practical in that if you drop it it might not be the end of the world, but it’s really expensive for what it is. We think there are cheaper and more impressive Android options out there...

TED EXCLUSIVE: My chat with Luke Friend ahead of Big Band week

Our boy Luke Friend absolutely smashed it on last weekend's X Factor with the judges labelling him the "dark horse of the competition".

It's Big Band week, perhaps not the best genre for Luke, but we have no doubt that he will silence the sceptical and deliver another mind-blowing performance.

It's been an incredibly busy week for Master Friend, having returned home to Exeter on Tuesday he lost an important day of rehearsals so this week's catch up was short and sweet.

OJ - What was it like coming back to Exeter after the journey you've been on so far? LF - It was...

John Lewis has given a preview of its annual Christmas advert campaign today.

The John Lewis Christmas advert has quickly become one of the early signs of Christmas since the 2010 advert featuring a boy who waits all year to give rather than get a presents was a national hit.

This year’s advert continues the theme of the previous years of going the extra mile to get your loved one the perfect gift.

In a classically animated advert the story of best friends, a bear and hare is set to a Cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ sung by Lily Allen.

The ad, at...

It’s fair to say that #teamTED is going X Factor crazy right now. But who can blame us? Exeter has had its best ever representation in the competition in the form of self taught yodeler Barclay Beales, sultry siren Shelley Smith and teenage sweetheart/rocker Luke Friend.

On Friday I caught up with Luke to find out how he’s doing, and will do so again this week, but today I had the pleasure of chatting with the gorgeous Shelley Smith to see what she’s been up to since leaving the competition.

Since leaving the competition she’s been traveling around the country performing...

Guildhall event asks you to spend money. Just keep within the law.

A new event called The Money taking place at Exeter's Guildhall invites players to spend money. Not fake money, real money. On a table will be a pile of cash and the participants or 'Benefactors' have to unanimously agree what to spend the collective money on. The group will only have two hours to decide. There are no rules and players can be as creative as they like as long as they keep within the law.

Taking place in Exeter’s Guildhall where the council make their decisions, The Money playfully poses questions about value, priorities and collective decision making...
