Free Cider and Summer Tunes Come to Devon with a Music Series from Thatchers Cider

Free pints, live music and summer vibes

Thatchers is set to delight music and cider fans heading into venues and pubs across the summer with a national 40+ gig series that will visit Devon throughout August.

A mix of Juicy Sounds DJ nights and Summer Sessions acoustic evenings will be held to celebrate what promises to be a summer filled, not just with sport, but with music too.

Events are currently planned for:

Plight of Syrian Exiles showcased in film

A powerful and heart-warming film about a group of Syrian refugee women is being shown at the University of Exeter.

A free screening of Yasmin Fedda’s award-winning documentary ‘Queens of Syria’, is being hosted by the University of Exeter’s Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies and Department of Theology on Thursday 12 November, and is open for everyone to attend.

Exeter launches Humanities Festival

The University of Exeter will launch a national humanities festival with a touch of magic this year as experts and academics come together to discuss our modern view of the mystical.

‘Magic: from the Inquisition to Harry Potter’ takes place on 12 November at Exeter Community Centre and brings together a group of experts on magic in history and literature to debate the mystery surrounding magic; why people are fascinated by it and how far our modern image of magic in novels such as Harry Potter reflect the lives of real people in the past.

Reeves & Mortimer show cancelled

Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer’s promoter has confirmed that comedian Bob Mortimer has undergone a successful triple bypass heart operation, and subsequently their Plymouth show on Sunday 29 November has been cancelled.

Following the operation, Bob will need to rest and recuperate for several weeks. Because of this, the first leg of the upcoming UK tour ‘25 Years of Reeves and Mortimer – The Poignant Moments’ has been cancelled. It is hoped that the January and February 2016 shows will go ahead as planned.

Cast announced for A Christmas Carol

The Exeter Northcott Theatre and Creative Cow are delighted to announce the cast for their magical new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ much-loved Christmas classic.

Leading the cast is celebrated local actor, Derek Frood, in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Derek was recently seen in BBC1’s Poldark and has previously entertained Devon audiences in his work with Theatre Alibi.

Syrian children’s artworks on show in Exeter

On Saturday October 31st, while some people in Exeter put on witches’ outfits and carry pumpkins, others will be empathising with the very real horror experienced by young people in Syria.

For one day only, the Art Gallery at 89 South Street will be exhibiting prints of drawings by young Syrian refugees.
