‘Should I play on a machine if someone else has recently won?’
This is a great question and a very common one. The straight answer is yes!
Machines are completely randomised, so whether the person before you won or not, the outcome of your spin will be completely at random.
The way the numbers are chosen is by a Random Number Generator (RNG), which creates a new, unpredictable combination of numbers each second, these then correspond with the symbols revealed on the reels.
‘Can people cheat on Slots?’
No - The RNG uses a formula known as an algorithm, which is a series of instructions for generating the numbers. This is done by the Casino Control Board and other testing laboratories to make sure that the program performs as it should, so the player will not be cheated.
‘Why is there only one type of music on Slots?’
If you’re very observant, you may have noticed that the music on Slots are all in the same key – C major. This is so that players are not standing at a group of machines with all different musical keys, which would be bound to cause a headache! The idea is to have all machines sounding very similar, so people will spend longer playing. Clever, right?
Should I set a bankroll when playing Slots?
No matter which casino game you are playing – Slots, Roulette, Blackjack and so on – you should always set a bankroll.
For those who don’t know, a bankroll is the amount of money you decide to spend on betting. This should always be done before you play, whether that’s at your local casino, or online, it’s vital to set an amount that you don’t mind losing, as a win is never guaranteed.
‘Where did Slots come from?’
Charles Fey invented the first slot machine in 1891, named the Liberty Bell. He created a machine that would allow automatic payouts. The game featured three reels and five symbols –hearts, diamonds, spades, horseshoes and a Liberty Bell.
The highest payout was awarded for landing three bell symbols on the reels, which is why the machine was named the Liberty Bell. It gained huge popularity, and without a patent, it wasn’t long before others copied his design.
Since then, the slot machine industry has grown significantly, with the introduction of video and even Virtual Reality (VR) Slots!
