We Are Brontë
Friday & Saturday, Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter
We Are Brontë is a piece of comic visual theatre inspired by the real and imaginery worlds of Yorkshire’s literary siblings, presented in Publick Transport’s irreverent style. Physical theatre collides with clowning and improvisation as two performers deconstruct not only gothic themes of love, madness, repression and revenge, but also themselves. Part play, part enquiry into the act of putting on a play, this promises to be no ordinary Brontë adaptation. Details: www.bikeshedtheatre.co.uk

An exhibition by Exmouth Art Group inspired by the beauty of the surrounding area, the tranquil setting of the A La Ronde house and gardens provide an ideal backdrop for this eclectic range of paintings. Open from 10.30am - 5.30pm, until 3 July. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/a-la-ronde/

Antonio Marguet: The Compelling Allure of Golden Yellow
Exeter Phoenix
Growing up between Syria and Spain, Antonio Marguet attributes a childhood fascination with sculpting plastic objects to the influence of his father's bubble-gum factory. Now based in London, Marguet works at the boundary between sculpture, installation and photography, bringing together a range of interdisciplinary skills to create highly original, unconventional and often humorous objects. These are carefully photographed before the originals are destroyed – the image ultimately becoming their only remaining record.  This exhibition brings together works from recent bodies of work Toenail Constellations and Deodorant Games as well as the first viewing of new work from his latest series Skin of Shark's Teeth. Work is on show until 31 July. www.exeterphoenix.org.uk

Historic views of Exeter canal and the Exe
RAMM, Queen Street, EXeter
An exhibition featuring historic scenes of Exeter canal and the Exe. First constructed in the 1560s, Exeter’s canal system has been extended and upgraded over the centuries. Now used primarily by leisure craft, the city waterways were once vital to the regional economy. The decline of the West Country wool trade and the arrival of the railways in the 19th century led to a reduction in use. However, sizeable cargoes were still brought up to the quayside even after the Second World War.  Drawn from Exeter’s Fine, Quay Views: Exeter Canal and the Exe can be viewed in gallery 5 until 2 August. Entry is free.
