Its time to dust off your platform boots and brush down your denims because on July 1st the Exmouth Pavilion will be all things ABBA.

Voulez Vous will be bringing their fab and groovy show to the theatre to get everyone on their feet and dancing to the classic tracks from the supergroup. Featuring award winning vocalists who have been wowing audiences for the last 20 yrs all around the world.

Gary Birtles who performs as Bjorn and has been with the band for several years says’ I love this music, it’s so uplifting, all the songs are so catchy and are guaranteed to get your feet tapping’. Gary continues, ’It’s amazing to watch the faces of the audience when the show starts, straight away they want to be up out of their seats and dancing all night.

Gary has been likened to Bjorn all his life with people telling him how much he looks like the Swedish superstar. He says, ‘Everytime I did a solo show people would come up to me and say I look just like Bjorn, so when the opportunity came to make a living out of it and with ‘Voulez Vous, I jumped at it, plus I absolutely love the music, I can remember exactly where I was when they appeared in Brighton to win the Eurovision. The highlight so far for me has been playing a festival with 6,000 people just partying and dancing to the music, also we were appearing with Slade who were my heroes.’

Voulez Vous were one of the first ABBA tributes to start the craze back in 1991 and the band have travelled all around the world entertaining ABBA fans.

The 2 lead girls portraying Agnetha and Frida are both highly experienced singers. Lorrie Brown who portrays Agnetha, has just won a National Tribute Award from the agents association and Denise Johnson who portrays Frida has actually been on the same ladder as ABBA when she appeared on Terry Wogans Eurovision Competition to find a group to represent the UK, sadly, like ABBA’s first attempt, they didn’t get through but she has been singing ever since and suits Frida’s voice perfectly. Another amazing similarity is the band are made up of 2 couples, exactly like the original ABBA. Gary says, ‘Its a great coincidence, Phil Green who portrays Benny is married to Frida and Lorrie and myself play Bjorn and Agnetha, hopefully we don't follow their path to closely’ Both couples in the supergroup ended in divorce.

The band have travelled all over Europe with the show and toured around Germany culminating in a welcome home show for returning troops as they finished their tour of Afghanistan. Gary says, ‘That was an amazing night, it was the first night back after a 6 month tour for the troops and they let their hair down, I have never seen the dance floor so full. It just goes to show the power of ABBA’s music that a band from the 70’s can have a room full of young soldiers jumping up and down on the dance floor, we will never forget that night’

They also supported 70’s supergroup Le Chic at a private birthday party in a castle in Ayrshire, ‘That was another amazing night,’ says Gary, ‘We performed in a marquee the size of a football field and the whole area was decked out in 1970’s decor, including a Saturday Night Fever dance floor.’
