Broadcaster and writer Jonathon Maitland is to debut his new production Dead Sheep at Exeter Northcott Theatre.

Directed by Ian Talbot OBE the play had a record breaking run at Park Theatre, the play will tour Exeter between the 31 October and 5 November 2016.

Dead Sheep portrays the true story of how Mrs. Thatcher, the most divisive Prime Minister of modern times, was brought down by her one time friend and political soul mate Geoffrey Howe.

The play took Jonathon 2 years to research, and he had the opportunity to access Geoffrey Howe himself, alongside other prominent politicians of that time.

The production recreates the events leading up to Howe’s famous 1990 speech which led to Thatcher’s downfall and resignation.

Playing Mrs Thatcher is Steve Nallon, alongside actors Paul Bradley as Howe, Graham Seed as Ian Gow / Nigel Lawson, Tony Bell as Bernard Ingham / Alan Clark / Dennis Thatcher and John Wark as Stephen Wall / Brian Walden.

Jonathan Maitland said: "When I wrote Dead Sheep in 2014 I knew it would be resonant. But it now feels uncanny.

“Then, as now, it was a story of a government split over Europe, agonising conflicts of loyalty, and a fatal miscalculation by a seemingly impregnable Prime Minister. The timing couldn't be sweeter.”
