For the second year running, the internationally acclaimed Salcombe Gin is delighted to be the headline sponsor of the Salcombe Yacht Club Regatta 2018.  The ultimate summer regatta in the South West, the Salcombe Gin SYC Regatta takes place on the stunning Salcombe estuary from the 5th to 10th August.

This adventurous luxury spirit, which embraces life on the water, has more reason than most to be involved in this prestigious event.  Co-founder and director of Salcombe Gin, Howard Davies, has seen his father Roger play an integral role with Salcombe Yacht Club and previous Salcombe regattas.  Roger Davies was the Rear Commodore Sailing for the club between 1999 and 2002 and during this time, in addition to a long list of responsibilities, built the original electronic Start Box.

Commenting on his role at Salcombe Yacht Club, Roger says: “It was a huge privilege to be associated with such a highly recognised organisation.  My responsibilities included everything from overseeing yacht repairs, organising dinghy sailing, setting up races for up to 300 boats to presenting at official prize-givings.  During the winter of 2001, I designed the Start Box which ran all the starting and timing sequences.  This was used until 2005 when a reproduction version was created which is still in place today.”  Roger continues: “It gives me great pleasure to now look on and see my son Howard’s involvement with the Regatta through Salcombe Gin’s sponsorship and the activities they run throughout this ever-popular week.”

Salcombe Yacht Club sailing co-ordinator for the club, Jayne Morris, says: “The Salcombe Yacht Club Regatta is one of the premier dinghy regattas in the South West.  We are delighted that Salcombe Gin is our headline sponsor again this year.  It is particularly special that co-founder Howard has such a long-standing history with Salcombe Yacht Club through his father Roger’s role as Rear Commodore Sailing.”  Jayne adds: “The terrace at Salcombe Yacht Club provides a breathtaking view of the sailing, high above the start line transit and far out to sea, it is a nautical visual feast and the perfect place, whilst spectating, to enjoy a ‘Salcombe & Tonic’!”

Jules McColl, Salcombe Yacht Club manager, comments that she is ‘also delighted that the Club has such a strong link with Salcombe Gin and is looking forward to the Regatta to further cement our relationship’.

Co-founder Howard Davies says: “Our signature ‘Salcombe & Tonic’ is fast becoming an integral aspect of the regatta season and a popular choice as the ultimate sundowner.  With its natural affinity with water, inspired by its coastal roots and the history of Salcombe, we’re delighted that Salcombe Gin is proving to be such a fitting and popular serve at prestigious yachting events, such as the Salcombe Gin SYC Regatta.”
